Fiery Command WorkStation 5 Frequently Asked Questions
- Which Fiery® servers are supported by Fiery Command WorkStation® 5 (CWS5)? How do I know if my Fiery is supported?
- CWS 5 supports Fiery System 6 and later versions. To confirm your Fiery Server system version, check on the link: http://www.efi.com//CWS5/Supported-Printers/.
- How are the connected Fiery servers sorted in the Server list?
- All connected servers are sorted alphabetically by server name on top. All disconnected servers are sorted alphabetically by server name below the connected servers.
- Can I manage all the files for all the connected servers from a single interface on CWS5?
-
The new user interface on CWS5 simplifies the printing experience by managing multiple
jobs from multiple Fiery servers in the one window, which is different from past
CWS versions.
CWS5 also offers the server list to manage the status of multiple Fierys in a single interface and the Search feature to find jobs on any of the connected Fiery Servers. - What are all of the Fiery server status color indicators (e.g., green = all go and red = an error)? Are there any other colors stating status?
- Gray: Not Connected:
- Red=Error condition: See Errors and Alerts:
- Green=Connected, No errors:
- Light and dark green stripped (actively processing or printing jobs)
- No other colors
- Paper Choices for the trays displays a locked symbol, what does this signify?
- Certain print engines have the option to lock certain Paper Catalog entries, so they can be used but not edited in CWS5. Those locked Paper Catalog entries can only be edited on the print engine.
- What formats can be dragged and dropped into the queues with CWS5?
- CWS5 does not prohibit the user from dragging and dropping files based on file type. Unsupported file types are not processed by the Fiery server, however.
- CWS4 displayed a FreeForm tab. Where is the FreeForm Tab in CWS5?
- The list of FreeForm™ Masters has been consolidated in the Resources/variable data printing (VDP) section of the Device Center. Previews of FreeForm Masters are only available from another job’s VDP tab of the Job Properties.
- Is Acrobat® required to preview PDF files?
- No, Acrobat is only required to preview PS files or to provide advanced page level editing.
- When I use booklet maker now, will it staple and fold, or do I still need to go to finishing tab and select staple and fold (e.g., what are Booklet Maker 3 and 4 differences?)?
- Booklet Maker is only a page layout and imposition tool, so you still need to go to Job Properties to select Folding and Finishing options based on your device.
- What are the default CWS5 preferences for units of measure and scaling?
- The default units of measure are inches and scaling = 100%.
- Are there any differences between the Config Page and the Setup Summary?
- We designed the Setup Summary to match the Config Page, but on a per product basis, there may be some items on the Config Page that are not in Setup Summary.
- What is the Print Server Setup Summary?
- The Print Server Setup Summary lists the settings in effect for the current setup. You can print or save a Setup Summary file for each print server that you are connected to. This feature is especially useful if you are managing multiple print servers and want to keep track of any changes made in feature, Print Server Set.
- CWS4 supported printing the Fiery Config Page and did not offer a save as option. In CWS5, can I save the Fiery Setup Summary information?
-

information.

- I'm currently using CWS4. Can I use SeeQuence Suite on CWS4?
- No, SeeQuence Suite only works with CWS5.
- Is the new SeeQuence Impose and SeeQuence Compose free to a CWS4 customer who already has Impose and Compose licenses?

- With the introduction of SeeQuence Suite, are the existing Impose/Compose options obsolete?
- No, the existing Impose/Compose options are not obsolete. SeeQuence Impose and SeeQuence Compose are the CWS5 implementations of Impose and Compose. The license that enables Impose and Compose in CWS4 can be used to enable SeeQuence Impose and SeeQuence Compose in CWS5.

- Mac users with Impose and Compose licenses are now be able to experience all the same workflow and options that the PC users have for years. However, if the Mac user wants to open a PS file in SeeQuence, the Mac user needs to supply his or her own copy of Acrobat 8 or 9, Professional, and if the user wants PitStop functionality, he or she must own a copy of PitStop as well.
- Do I need to get SeeQuence in order to preview pre-RIP jobs with CWS5?
- In CWS4, the Preview feature for pre-RIP jobs requires the client to have a copy of Impose or Compose. In CWS5, the preview feature for pre-RIP jobs does NOT require a SeeQuence Impose or SeeQuence Compose license. This free preview feature gives a simplex 1-up read-only preview of the job and does not reflect job property settings. With a SeeQuence Compose or SeeQuence Impose client license, the SeeQuence preview reflects the job property settings such as media and layout settings. The SeeQuence preview feature does not require a client copy of Acrobat to preview PDF files, but it does require a client copy of Acrobat to preview and distill PS files.
